Magazine PALAIS #01

Editorial  by Marc-Olivier Wahler

From zombies to wave theory, from occultism to Mike Tyson, via skateboarding, metaphysics, chainsaw sculpture or the philosophy of goalkeepers, this first issue of PALAIS / is about art. And therefore about exhibitions, which revolve around the concepts of randomness, acceleration and time dilation, and objects in levitation or waiting to be activated.

PALAIS is entirely traversed by a notion of elasticity: it thus draws art towards reality and reality towards art. Are there possible points of rupture? Where are the zones of correspondence, improbable territories where yodelling and quantum physics, the Pope and ghosts, topology and proctology mingle? Destined to evolve over the next few issues into a veritable schizophrenic machine, this magazine functions like a particle accelerator in which any notion that is too static is transformed into a contagious dynamic.

PALAIS in the connections it activates, approaches itself as a paradoxical object. Both invisible and hyper-spectacular, it reveals itself as a stealth bomber that is invisible to a certain gaze (the radar) and yet hyper-spectacular to another gaze (just look up). It does not function in a logic of exclusion (it is a or b), but in a dynamic of inclusion (it is a and b). Like the contemporary art he defends, he aspires to a true hygiene of the mind, to a look devoid of filters. “If you can see art as art, simply, then reality can remain what it is,” as Olivier Mosset suggests.
