Feiko Beckers (NL)

Born in 1983. Lives and works in Amsterdam.

Feiko Beckers graduated from the Minerva Academy of Fine Arts in Groningen (2006) and also studied at the California College of the Arts in San Francisco (2005). In 2011 and 2012 he was a resident at the Rijksakademie in Amsterdam.

In his videos and performances Beckers deploys a language of the absurd that leaves the viewer in doubt between sarcasm and humor. His everyday life is the basis of Beckers’ work in which failure and incompletion are recurring themes, signifying the human condition. With the use of scenography and narrative structures, he sets up engaging tales that are often interrupted unexpectedly, changing the relation to temporality.

In 2010, Feiko Beckers was awarded the Hendrik Muller Vaderlandsch Fund. He exhibited at DeServiceGarage in Amsterdam, Videos Office in Paris and has shown his performances at STUK in Leuven, the Beursschouwburg in Brussels and De Appel Arts Centre in Amsterdam. In 2012, he was part of the TJCC Festival Théâtre de Gennevilliers.
